Box Office Report: 'Dhobi Ghat' open with mixed response: Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s film Dhobi Ghat has opened to a mixed response at the box office. At some centres the film is doing very well; at others the response is lukewarm.
The film has opened particularly well at certain multiplexes in metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The best response to the film bordered on 80 to 90 percent occupancy in theatres. At worst, the film got a 30 percent response. Moreover, the film picked up at box office in the evening compared to its collections in the morning.
Trade pundits feel that film has enough momentum to recover its paltry production cost of Rs. 8 crore (including publicity costs) in the first week itself. Also Wednesday (Republic Day) being a holiday will work to the film’s advantage.
On the other hand, the last week’s release Yamla Pagla Deewana rounded off the first week with a collection of Rs. 35 crore, which is way above those of some big budget productions we’ve seen in the recent past.
Of course, the favourable audience response has prompted the Deols to make the film’s sequel.

Box Office Report: ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana' vs 'No One Killed Jessica’
Box Office Report: 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' vs 'No One Killed Jessica', good going!: January chill hasn’t stopped the cine-goers from stepping out and enjoying the movies. The only condition is that the movie has to be good. If Yamla Pagla Deewana is doing extremely well in the northern belt, Bollywood lovers are having good time watching the past releases No One Killed Jessica and even Band Baaja Baaraat.
After making a heady start, Yamla Pagla Deewana fared phenomenally, especially on single screens. As per reports, the weekend business is above expectations with a figure of approximately Rs 22 crore. The movie is doing extremely well in North India but its business in Maharashtra and South India is not up to the mark.
On the other hand, No One Killed Jessica is doing good business at the multiplexes. The movie had a satisfactory second weekend collection of around Rs 19.50 crore. The collections on the weekdays were reported to be rock-steady. It stands a chance of crossing the Rs 30 crore mark.
Now let’s move to Band Baaja Baaraat - the movie continues its dream run at the box office. In its fifth week, it overtook Tees Maar Khan which is running in its third week. The fifth week collection of Band Baaja Baaraat is around Rs 1.50 crore while Tees Maar Khan collected approx Rs 1.15 crore in its third week.
This Friday, be ready to visit Dhobi Ghat as Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao bring to you a simple, sensitive, stirring movie.

Box Office Report: good opening of 'Yamla Pagla Deewana'
Box Office Report: good opening of 'Yamla Pagla Deewana': It was a forgone conclusion that Yamla Pagla Deewana, featuring the trinity of true-blue Punjabis -- Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol -- would set new records at theatres in Punjab.
Little surprise then that the film opened to an exceptionally good response at theatres in the north Indian state. Even in New Delhi, which has a large Punjabi population, YPD attracted a lot of footfalls to single screen theatres.
The movie, however, saw an average opening in Mumbai, particularly at multiplexes, with just about 40 percent occupancy. Single screen theatres still had a better response. The south belt too did not lap the movie as enthusiastically as the north.
Yet, YPD is expected to have a decent first weekend and if it picks up in Mumbai, might even go on to be a hit.
On the other hand, there were few takers for Turning 30, starring Gul Panag and Purab Kohli. The film opened to an average response of 20-30 percent at multiplexes. Since the film is mostly in English, it’s aimed at multiplex audiences only.
Last week’s release No One Killed Jessica is keeping steady at theatres.

Box Office Report: No One Killed Jessica vs Tees Maar Khan
Box Office Report: No One Killed Jessica vs Tees Maar Khan: The year’s first major release hasn’t disappointed the cine-goers. No One Killed Jessica took a slow start at the box office with 30-35% occupancy on its first day, but revved up and saw a good weekend business of Rs 12.50 crore approx.
The movie, which is based on the Jessica Lal murder case and stars Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan, is expected to do well at the multiplexes.
As per trade reports, the movie’s Friday collection was approximately Rs 3.15 crore; on Saturday the collections jumped to Rs 4.50 crore; and on Sunday it was approx Rs 4.75 crore. So the graph is going up. Let’s see how the movie will perform in the coming days, crucial to decide its box office fate.
The other releases of the week: Impatient Vivek and Vikalp were very poor with almost zilch collections. The films will go unnoticed at the box office.
Coming to Tees Maar Khan, the movie saw a heavy drop in its second week, with around Rs 10.50 crore approx business. The film has a two-week total of Rs 59.50 crore approx which makes it a semi-hit, if not a flop. Same was the trend in the overseas market too. The movie couldn’t do well in its second weekend. The film is reportedly heading for a business of around $4 to 4.25 million (Rs 18-19 crore) from all the markets abroad.

Box Office Report: 'Tees Maar Khan' performed below expectation
Box Office Report: 'Tees Maar Khan' performed below expectation: Though Tees Maar Khan got a huge opening and collected Rs 50 crore from its first week, the collection saw a heavy drop in the second weekend. This Friday’s release Bhoot And Friends witnessed just 2-3% occupancy.
Tees Maar Khan fails to lure the masses and as a result its second weekend collection fell miserably. It collected just Rs 7.25 crore approx. As per reports, the drop from first weekend was around 80%. The film’s ten-day total collection is approximately Rs 56.50 crore.
This Farah Khan film is likely to finish its second week with around Rs 60 crore approx. The distributor share will be of Rs 35 crore approx. The movie is not a flop because of its staggering opening collection. With its second weekend collection Tees Maar Khan is the sixth biggest grosser of 2010-11, but still the movie performed below expectations. Its business is disappointing for its makers.
Toonpur Ka Superrhero and Isi Life Mein had very poor collections and are out from many theatres. Over all, a dull start for the year 2011!

Box Office Report: 'Tees Maar Khan' to get 38 crores net
Box Office Report: 'Tees Maar Khan' to get 38 crores net: In a country hooked to masala entertainers, a Farah Khan film is indeed a cinematic event, and humungous expectations were attached to her film Tees Maar Khan.
The film witnessed a good opening at box office, raking in third largest first weekend collection for any Hindi movie with the business of a little over 38 crore nett. Only two films, Dabangg and 3 Idiots boast of better first weekend collection.
Starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, TMK opened to the first day business of Rs 13 crore on Friday. It picked up marginally on Saturday, with a collection of near about Rs. 13.25 crore. The business fell on Sunday - when it should have gone up - with the film making about Rs 12 crore.
Negative reviews and word of mouth dented the movie’s collection further on Monday.
On the other hand, Ajay Devgan and Kajol’s Toonpur Ka Superrhero took a dull start on Friday but picked up slightly on Saturday and Sunday. However, the film isn’t pulling much crowd.
Normally, Christmas weekend is big for Bollywood. Since last three years, Aamir Khan has been giving hits like Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini and 3 Idiots during Xmas weekend. TMK has fallen below expectations when compared to the mammoth business that Aamir’s films did.
